More than thirty years of Greek hospitality in one of the most beautiful places in Vlissingen, the story of a restaurant, its people and the god it is named after.
In February 1992, Greek Apostolos and his wife Nerantzia opened the first Greek restaurant Poseidon at this beautiful spot by the Vlissingen marina. What began as the dream of a couple with a rich culinary tradition grew into a household name in the city.
In the years that followed, the restaurant passed through several hands, from Georgios Malamidis, who created the terrace on the square outside, to today. Since 2003, Elena and Vasilis Papapostolou have continued the tradition: pure Greek dishes, generous hospitality and a warm welcome by the coast.
Through all the years, one thing remained unchanged: the promise to welcome every guest as if coming home to Greece.

Poseidon, Neptune to the Romans, was the son of Kronos and Rhea and the brother of Zeus. When power was divided, the sea was assigned to him. Originally he was a horse god, so horses and chariot races remained sacred to him.
In his underwater palace he kept horses with golden manes and bronze hooves. When they pulled his golden chariot, storms calmed and dolphins played around it. With his trident, Poseidon could also churn the seas and shake the earth.
He fell in love with Amphitrite, daughter of Nereus. When she fled to the far reaches of the sea, Poseidon sent the dolphin Delphinus to plead his case. Together they had several children, including Triton, master of the hollow sea shell.
Poseidon was most revered by sailors, and many of his temples stand on capes and headlands overlooking the sea. A name that could hardly be more fitting at the Vlissingen marina.
According to Apostolos, a glass of ouzo immediately on arrival is not a Greek custom. Our guests do receive something pleasant, but at the right moment and with attention to young and old.
Everything is prepared in a purely Greek way. Have you ever tasted something in Greece that is not on the menu? Ask us and we will gladly prepare it for you.
The love of cooking runs deep. Apostolos learned young from his father, who had a restaurant in Alexandroupoli, and that tradition can still be tasted in our kitchen.
Rob Geus from Smaakpolitie also found everything in excellent order and awarded the hygiene quality mark.
Reserve a table by the harbour and experience Poseidon’s Greek hospitality, just as in Greece.
